Save Barnegat Bay is a not-for-profit environmental group working to conserve undeveloped natural land and clean water throughout the Barnegat Bay watershed.  Save Barnegat Bay organizes several major cleanups throughout the year, which are great volunteer opportunities for the whole family!  Visit their website for more information.

New Jersey Community Water Watch is a joint program between AmeriCorps and the NJ Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) Law and Policy Center. The mission of the Water Watch volunteers in communities across the state is to empower students and community members to address water quality problems in New Jersey's urban areas through education and service.  The three major program areas that address water quality issues are: clean-ups, stream monitoring, and environmental education.   The NJ Community Water Watch representative for Ocean County is based out of Ocean County College and can be reached by calling the BBNEP office at 732.255.0472.   Visit their website for more information.

Barnegat Bay Watershed and Estuary Foundation is a program with a mission is to promote a healthy ecosystem throughout the Barnegat Bay Watershed through efforts that conserve and protect the soil, forest, water, shorelines, fish, and wildlife populations.  The best way to get involved is by becoming a member. Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA) was established to protect and preserve the resources of the New Jersey Pine Barrens through public awareness and permanent acquisition of land and development rights, as well as proposing and influencing changes in legislation, regulations, policies and plans that would strengthen the effectiveness of Pinelands preservation.  There are a range of volunteer opportunities with PPA from organizing a canoe trip to manning a booth at a nature festival.  Visit their website for more information. 

Alliance for a Living Ocean is based on Long Beach Island.  Their mission is to promote and maintain clean water and a healthy coastal environment through education, research and active participation.  Visit their website for more information. 

Clean Ocean Action, “working together as a coalition of dedicated groups and individuals, is committed to advocate for a safe and clean ocean. Clean Ocean Action works to educate the public and convince our public officials to enact and enforce legislation necessary to protect our coasts through educational campaigns, special events, meetings, beach cleanups, and research.  

Throughout the year, Clean Ocean Action offers several volunteer opportunities to help further our mission, including bi-annual beach cleanups, public education and outreach campaigns at local beaches and beach clubs (summer C.O.A.S.T. campaign) and festivals (all year), office duties, education programs, and many other opportunities.”  Visit their website for more information.

If you would like the opportunity to learn about Barnegat Bay ecology, become an environmental steward, and have a positive effect on bay waters by growing shellfish, join ReClam the Bay! This non-profit volunteer organization works with Rutgers Cooperative Extension and the Department of Environmental Protection to raise clams and oysters to ReClaim the bay. Volunteers are trained in shellfish aquaculture

methods, water quality, monitoring growth, and collecting data. In addition, volunteers raise public awareness about water quality, growing shellfish, and the Barnegat Bay through educational programs and displays.
